Instead of making a list of goals or resolutions, I’ve decided to focus on how what I do makes me feel – physically, mentally, and emotionally. The only real goal I have is to do less of the things that make me feel drained, disappointed, and depressed – and more of the things that make me feel energized, animated, inspired, and alive.
So, here’s a list of the things that make me feel good:
- Sending hand-written cards and letters to family and friends
- Saving money
- Doing yoga
- Keeping a balance between downtime and being active
- Bringing my breakfast and lunch to work
- Doing regular strength training at least 3 days/week
- Having an event, trip, or outing to look forward to
- Taking the bus more often than I drive
- Getting a massage every month
- Cooking meals and trying new recipes
- Celebrating holidays
- Doing weekly chores (laundry, dishes, cleaning, grocery shopping, recycling, etc.) before the start of the workweek
- Limiting alcohol intake to 3 drinks/week
- Being able to go farther on a run or swim than I did the last time
- Limiting caffeine intake
- Painting my nails
- Waking up early
- Going on daily walks with Benny
- Drinking enough water
- Taking bubble baths
- Doing at least 30 minutes of cardio at least 3 days/week
- Going to the movies
